In addition to posting transcriptions of news stories related to nineteenth-century child performers in the Performer Directory, we have compiled detailed biographies for a select group of children. These performers lived fascinating lives and, while their experiences are not necessarily typical of all child performers, their biographies highlight the challenges that many encountered as well as the opportunities they enjoyed.
