Tomorrow I fly to Boston to begin a week of research in the Harvard Theatre Collection. This will be my first real visit to the HTC – I had a brief tour of the Houghton Library in 2008 as part of a conference but that was just a glance. Now I’ll be immersing myself completely for five days. During my time I hope to see material related to Jean Margaret Davenport, including the Staffordshire figure of Davenport as Young Norval in Douglas. And there are numerous pamphlets related to Master Betty. I was surprised not to find more on Clara Fisher (there is some material, including a biography, but it’s not extensive, at least from what I could tell from the online finding aids). But I’m sure that I’m going to have more than enough to look at during my relatively short visit.
